Cihan Özpınar

Cihan Özpınar was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, where he studied international politics and political science. He received a Ph.D. in Political Science from Galatasaray University, Istanbul, with a dissertation devoted to “The Immigrant Question in France.” He has taught European socio-economic history and international politics at a number of Turkish universities; worked as an editor and translator for publishing houses in Turkey, where he was responsible for the publication of Henri Lefebvre, David Harvey, and Neil Smith, among others; and translated Noam Chomsky from English to Turkish and Thomas Piketty from French to Turkish. A member of the Organizing Committee for the 2020 Historical Materialism Conference, held in Ankara, he writes and publishes on Marxist theories of class, intersectionality, social reproduction theory, and French and Turkish politics. He teaches in the Department of International and Global Studies at Portland State University
